Ok, it’s time to fess up. How many times have you used your cell phone while also using the loo? Not willing to admit to that? Ok, how many time have you had your cell phone with you in the bathroom? In a place where it could fall in? If you’ve never done that, well, good for you. But apparently lots of users do. And not only that, but their cellphones fall in, too.

Eeewww.

Now, it’s possible that this phenomena, covered by the Milwaukee Gazette Extra, is confined to cell phone users in Wisconsin, but somehow that seems unlikely. What is certain is that it’s not uncommon. Vince Ingrilli Jr. of Ingrilli Plumbing in Milwaukee, says that they pull plenty of cell phones of out the plumbing, primarily from the restrooms of restaurants and bars.

Ingrilli explained that “It happens late at night. We get the call in the morning. They don’t always tell you what is down there.

“You might be in and out of there in a half-hour if you can pop it out from the top,” added Ingrilli. “If you can’t see it or it lodges in the throat of the bowl, you’re going to need to replace the whole thing.”

Just how could this happen? How uncareful do you have to be to let your cell phone fall into the toilet?

Tracy Robertson admits that his cell phone fell into the bowl when it slipped from his belt clip. “It was one of those things, where it was the perfect timing and the perfect position. It just went in, just as it was flushing, too,” he explained.

Ok, so maybe these things just happen. But twice? Or even three times? Lexi Phillips has lost a total of three cell phones to watery graves. First her cel lphone fell out of her back pocket into the toilet. Then another cell phone fell out of her back pocket into the toilet (apparently those Wisconsin girls are a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to protecting their cell phones in the bathroom). Then, perhaps tiring of giving up her cell phones to death by flushing, a third cell phone belonging to Phillips suffered a somewhat more demure demise when it instead simply fell into the sink.

So let this be a lesson to you all, dear readers, to not take your cell phone into the bathroom with you. Or, if you must (and if you must, for the love of all that is holy, why??), at least wear it on a neckchain.
