You better watch out, you better not click - Santa Worm is coming to AIM (and Yahoo and MSN messengers).

Security company IMLogic is warning this week that a Santa Claus worm, dubbed the IM.GiftCom.All worm, is making the rounds of not just AIM, or Yahoo Messenger or MSN Messenger, but of all three instant messaging programs!

The Santa Worm starts out by sending its intended victim what appears to be an innocent message from someone they know, offering a link to a file with a picture of Santa Claus. And, in fact, when they click on the link, they do see a picture of Santa Claus. But while they are viewing that picture, a rootkit is being installed on their computer behind the scenes, giving the bad guys full access to their computer.

So, everybody, sing it with me…

You better watch out, you better not click, you better not access or it will make your system sick…

…Santa Worm is coming to AIM (and Yahoo and MSN).

  1. You didn’t say what to do after you see that Santa Clause message. Does one right click it and delete it, or what?

  2. If you see the message, ignore it because it can’t do anything.=. If you click on the link, I’m glad I’m not you.

  3. Well I saw the Santa All dressed in red. When I woke in the morning my computer was dead!

I’m not sure what happened but my system would no longer recognise my drives. It’s in the shop and I’m waiting for the verdict! Email was from a trusted friend It’s hard to determine what or what not is a virus these days.

  4. GRRRR!!! I’ve been infected, and while everyone’s willing to give out the information about how to avoid the worm (which I missed), no one’s telling me how to get rid of it!
