They are calling it the “Sex Degrees of Separation” website. Shagster.net is the Friendster or Linked-In of the intimate relationship. Slept with someone? Register them on Shagster.net. Slept with several, or several dozen someones? Register them all on Shagster.net!

According to Shagster founder Chris Leate, “The idea came from the Kevin Bacon ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ game, where any film star could be linked to that particular film star (sic) within six steps. This site aims to explore the various worldwide links between individuals via sexual partners. It’ll provide an interesting snapshot of the sexual make-up of our users – one which will, I am sure, provoke debate as the community evolves. We’ve been able to provide this service thanks to the generous support of computer games publisher Digital Jesters and Internet retail outlet I Want One Of Those, and we’re grateful for their help in getting this up and running. With their support, our goal is for Shagster.net to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive relational relationship database.”

Even in beta while ..uh..getting it up and running, Shagster.net is already registering users. According to the site, “Users simply register their profile for free before inputting the details of those they have slept with. These details are only added with the consent of the other party, but, once given, a new circle of friends is generated. Stats such as ‘performance ratings’ are also listed, adding a little bit more spice to the community. Members can browse the profiles of friends they are connected to, to discover who they are connected to and form new friendships through their mutual conquests.”

“Conquests”

Nice.

You can register with, or marvel or lament over, Shagster at Shagster.net.

But just before you do, remember, it’s not nice to kiss and tell.

  1. More to the point - research was done in Sweden (of course) on something similar related to the spread of STDs and HIV. The gist was:

If a person is not totally monogamous they are within 2 steps, sexually speaking, from every other non-monogamous persn in Sweden. This was based on data that showed most non-monogamous people only had 1 or 2 partners but a very few had had in excess of 100 partners. Those, like Kevin Bacon, formed nodes through which all others were related.

I thought I saw it in New Scientist report - but I can’t find it in their archives
