Porncasts are nothing new; Apple itself has been offering adult-themed podcasts in its iTunes store since last summer.

But with the advent of the video iPod, industry experts say that the adult content industry is ready and poised to release a whole new raft of adult-content video, aimed squarely at the video iPod.

Brian Milburn, President of Solid Oak Software, makers of CyberSitter, explains that “Gone are the days when little Johnny would steal his dads’ Playboy and share it with the other kids behind the dumpster during recess. Now they will be showing full color, stereo, high definition porn clips.”

One of the big questions is whether the Apple iTunes store will offer that sort of video content. The iTunes store is already offering music videos, and even current-season top television shows such as “Desperate Housewives”. And their adult-themed podcasts have ranked in the top twenty iTunes downloads. So why wouldn’t they?

There is the June 29th interview with Steve Jobs, during which he proclaimed “we’re not allowing any pornography” in the iTunes store. But that has been roundly disproven by the adult podcasts which have since appeared on the site.

Given the above history, and the potential of this very lucrative niche, my best guess is that Apple will err on the side of taste and decorum, but within those constraints, will offer whatever it can get away with.

Opined Milburn of Apple, “I would be surprised if they are not counting on adult content to contribute to the demand for their product to some degree,” adding that “The handwriting is on the wall. Come Christmas morning when hundreds of thousands of ‘Little Johnny’s’ find a new video iPod under the tree, they will already know where to get the porn to put on it.”
