Today was the first day that the MyTouch 4G Slide was available to the public from T-Mobile, and so we picked one up so that we could give you our first impressions. The My Touch 4G Slide phone is known primarily for two major features (well, three if you count that it comes with Android Gingerbread 2.3 installed), and those are the incredible 8 megapixel camera, and the blazing fast 1.2 GHz dual-core processors. But it’s the little things that make or break a phone experience, so read on…

One of the first ‘little’ things that we noticed occurred right after we switched our SIM card from our previous phone to the MyTouch 4G:

Do you see that? Instead of having to re-download every app that you can’t live without, Gingerbread 2.3 (at least on the MyTouch 4G) restores them for you automatically! NICE!

Also, the MyTouch 4G OS has built in a feature that it calls “Quick Settings”, which you access right from the Notifications pane, and which serves as a combination task killer, memory tracker, and quick-access to all settings:

Of course, the camera is splendid! Here is a shot out a window – we are standing in a low-lit house (and haven’t yet played with the light balance settings):

And here is that same exact shot, only this time using the 3x digital zoom:

T-Mobile claims it to be the most advanced phone camera ever, listing such features as:

Zero shutter lag: Capture what you see instantly by pressing the shutter and taking the picture.

SweepShot™ panorama: Take ultrawide shots. Simply press once, then sweep left to right, right to left, top to bottom, or bottom to top.

ClearShot™ HDR: See crystal clear detail even when shooting in mixed or direct light.

BurstShot™: Capture five shots with one click, and never miss the action.

Auto Scenes: Get optimized settings automatically for night, portrait, and close-up shots.

Auto face detection: Find and focus automatically on any faces in a shot.

Low light performance (BSI Sensor): Capture vibrant pictures even in low light conditions.

The SweepShot is pretty sweet – here is that same scene, taken from the same place, with SweepShot:

The MyTouch Slide 4g also comes with an 8GB micro SD card (nice) and, for your game fans, it comes preloaded with Bejeweled 2.

The keyboard, which is always critical for us, while not as good as the Sidekick keyboard (nobody has ever come up with a keyboard to top the Sidekick’s), is certainly servicable. And with the other features, including a great camera, and flash for the camera, and the dual-core processor which makes the MyTouch 4G one of the fastest phones on the market, which the Sidekick lacks, we think that the MyTouch 4G is one great little phone.

You can read all of the specifications of this great new phone here at the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G page.
