Summary: A new online free sex offender search tool allows you to search a list of "sex offenders in my area." The free sex offender search cross-references a list for registered sex offenders with an online mapping system, so that you can find any registered sex offender on the sex offenders list anywhere within a 1 to 20 mile radius of any location (such as your home, your child's school, etc.).

A new online free sex offender search tool allows you to search a list of “sex offenders in my area.” The free sex offender search cross-references a list for registered sex offenders with an online mapping system, so that you can find any registered sex offender on the sex offenders list anywhere within a 1 to 20 mile radius of any location (such as your home, your child’s school, etc.).

The free sex offender list mapping tool is provided by Vision 20/20, a company which provides location-based tracking services for those who want to keep tabs on their teens, young children, elderly parents, and pets.

The way the tool works is that you go to the site, and enter a street name, along with city and state, or zip code. Then you select whether you want to know about registered sex offenders within a one, two, three, five, ten, or twenty mile radius. Hit “submit”, and a map comes up showing you where each and every registered sex offender in that area lives.

But that’s not all.

The system also pulls up each one’s name, and a link to their information, along with a picture, where available.

Personally, we particularly liked that because the mapping system they are using is MSN’s live.com mapping, that when it’s doing the search, the MSN chat people top the list of registered sex offenders.

Dangerous registered sex offenders -
who knew?

We also liked that the little people icons on the map itself are all wearing green hardhats and Fu Manchu mustaches - even the female sex offenders.

Graphical silliness aside, of course, this can be a very useful tool.

But do keep in mind that it can also be a catalyst for hysteria.

With that caution, you can check out the free sex offender search tool here.

[Note: They are now requiring that you register, although it is still free. This is a new development since we wrote this article.]

  4. If you’d checked the 1st related story under the article it would have led you to NSOPR:

The National Sex Offender Public Registry is online at NSOPR.gov.

  5. You are incorrect Jim. NSOPR.gov does not show where they are on a map and there are no fumanchu mustaches. We still need a link.

  8. OK, that was interesting. I clicked the contact us link on the web site for technical support entering. The email came back as undeliverable. Is this site legit?
