Amazon has just launched a new Amazon payments checkout program called Checkout by Amazon. A direct competitor to Paypal and Google Checkout, Checkout by Amazon is Amazon’s latest attempt to position itself as oh-so-much-more than just a place for you to buy books, and just about everything else.

“Yeah yeah,” I can hear you saying, “another checkout service, big deal.”

And while it’s true that you can pay for things you buy online with Checkout by Amazon, and that, like Paypal, you can even send money to someone else’s email address (or mobile phone number!), there is one thing that the new Amazon “Checkout by Amazon” program has that neither Paypal nor Google Checkout has - and for legions of Paypal users, at least, this may be quite a big deal.

Are you ready?

Checkout by Amazon offers 1-Click purchasing. Just like you get at the Amazon site.

You know how with Paypal you have to go through several steps to pay for something on a merchant’s website?

Wouldn’t one-click payment be nice?

Now you can have it, with Checkout by Amazon’s 1-Click buying - just like on Amazon.

In fact, if you are already an Amazon customer, then shopping with any merchant who offers Checkout by Amazon allows you to just use all of the buying information already stored in your Amazon account. Including, again, 1-Click purchasing.

In essence, it’s exactly the same steps as ordering from Amazon. In fact, when you pay via Checkout by Amazon you even get the Amazon guarantee as to both the condition of the merchandise and its timely delivery, even for items you purchase from someone else’s website!

Perhaps best of all, as a shopper you hardly have to do anything to use Checkout by Amazon! Assuming that you already have an Amazon account, all you need to do is click through a few simple steps here: Enable Checkout by Amazon.

Once you’ve done that you’re ready to shop at any online merchant who offers Checkout by Amazon!
