Consider it Netscape’s valentine to the world.

Netscape, now a division of Time Warner, which in turn is a subsidiary of America Online, will be releasing a beta version of its new Netscape 8 on Thursday, February 17th (so mark your calendars!)

Netscape 8 is touted as having, among other things, a unique and novel anti-phishing component, meaning that it will help to protect users from having person and other information “phished” from or through their computer.

The new browser, which is taking direct aim at security flaw beleagured rival Internet Explorer will query blacklists of websites known to faciliate phishing and other Internet misdeeds, and when detecting such a site will flash a warning to the user while also disabling vulnerable aspects of the user’s system.

Other new features of Netscape 8 include a built-in RSS feed reader.
