Earlier this week Aunty reported to you that Microsoft was censoring Chinese users of its new Chinese-based web and blogging portal.

Today Silicon.com is reporting that Microsoft has confirmed this in an email to Silicon.com, in which Microsoft admits that it does maintain a list of forbidden words and phrases, and that “We don’t disclose the list but we do have the ability to change and update the filter as needed to help ensure we abide by the laws, regulations and norms of China.”

The Microsoft MSN China portal was launched earlier this month, following a deal which Microsoft inked with Chinese state-owned Shanghai Alliance Investment.
