Now this is a really cool concept - a website which features “how to play this song” tutorial videos where the how-to is done by the actual artist!

“Now Play It” describes itself as “a new and exciting way to learn and play your favorite songs. This unique video service features real music and real artists all backed by real learning techniques.”

Now Play It was, explains Now Play It, “developed to help offer a more instant and direct way of learning, for every range of musician.”

Here’s how it works - you register at the site (it’s free), and then you can download the tutorial videos for a small fee. Each tutorial offers a “full” and a “lite” version.

The full version is “exclusively filmed direct 1 to 1 tutorial with an artist. Each one is shot in a unique location, be it at the artists house, studio or backstage on tour,” and include three sections - the “lesson” (which run about 15 to 25 minutes and “take the user through how to play every aspect of the song”), the “recap” and the “play through”.

The “lite” version has just the recap and the play through, and is typically 3 to 6 minutes long.

The videos are offered in both Windows Media and MP4 format, so that you can play them on your iPod. The videos run $7.86 for the full version (3.99 British pounds, as this is a UK site) and $3.92 (1.99 British pounds) for the Lite version.

We think that this is a really cool concept and we can’t say it any better than does Now Play It themselves: “If you want to play a song, there is no better way to learn than from the artist who wrote or performs it.”

You can check them out at NowPlayIt.com.
