No matter how snazzy a cell phone is, it’s only as good as the carrier that is servicing it. And in the case of the iPhone, it turns out that it is straining Ma Bell’s system to the point that AT and T’s 9 million iPhone users are disproportionately dragging down AT and T’s network infrastructure. According to analysts, iPhone users are using as much as 10 times as much data as their non-iPhone smartphone counterparts, resulting in what the New York Times reported as “dropped calls, spotty service, delayed text and voice messages and glacial download speeds.” Explains AT and T’s CTO, John Donovan, “It’s been a challenging year for us.
