While this is at least the third outage in as many months, The Internet Patrol has heard consistently, since April, every month, from more than a few people who have been unable to access their Hotmail account and email.

On July 27th, readers from all over the world, including Nepal and South America, as well as states across the United States, all reported being unable to access Hotmail.

In August, in comments here on our own site, readers asked “Microsoft why is My MSN and Hotmail pages not working on line???” and complained that “messenger, hotmail.com, msn.com not working.

Now, with this third major outage, users are less confused, and more angry. Many are talking about voting with their feet.

“No point really in including my email address (hotmail) in this comment as I can’t access it. Whom can we contact at Microsoft to request information about the server, especially an estimate of when it might be available again, and what the plans are for backup servers to prevent future outages. Also, has anyone experienced a server problem with gmail or yahoo?. I think we need to vote with our e-feet,” suggested one unhappy Hotmail user.

For some, the switch is already being made:

“I have switched over to Gmail, and I recommend everyone to do that as well. It’s actually a lot better than Hotmail, now I just wish I did it sooner. Hotmail is horrible period, as soon as I moved all my accounts, goodbye Hotmail forever!” exclaimed one user.

How do I change to Yahoo or aol?” asked another.

We don’t know why Hotmail is down again, and we can’t tell you when it will be back up.

But we can tell you that we agree that switching to Gmail or Yahoo makes a lot of sense at this point, and you can read about our own recommendations here as to why you should switch from Hotmail to Yahoo or Gmail.

Wow..reading comprehension is your friend..on second thought, apparently not. What part of “But we can tell you that we agree that switching to Gmail or Yahoo makes a lot of sense at this point, and you can read about our own recommendations here as to why you should switch from Hotmail to Yahoo or Gmail.” did you not understand? Do you want the Internet Patrol to wipe it for you, too?

  4. I had a hotmail account a year ago and had trouble accessing it. After about 6 months, I opened a new hotmail account and could never access it. Always got some kind of message about a server being down. I quit trying to access it, and I’m glad I never gave out that email address. I have both yahoo and aol email accounts and have very seldom had a time I would get a server error when going into that mail. Now I have one of my bosses telling me that I need to open another hotmail account as my smartphone can access it better. I think not.

  6. Since 26th February till date (18th March, 2008) I and my friends in India are still not able to log into our Hotmail Accounts from those systems/machines from which the Users were not logged into the hotmail when the Outage Issue first hit Microsoft’s Internet services.
In fact, I am unable to open any Microsoft website at all from this Windows XP machine, except ‘Microsoft Office’.
    Any SOLUTION, please?
