It seems like just yesterday that we told you that Google is building a massive plant in The Dalles, Oregon, and now here is a new announcement: Google has just announced that they are buying their Mountain View headquarters (which they were leasing), and a neighboring complex in a $319million dollar deal. Add this to the million square feet on which they are planning to build at Nasa Ames (just down the road from their Mountain View headquarters) and, well, it’s clear that Google is gobbling up real estate nearly as fast as it’s gobbling up virtual territory. Not that they don’t need it. Already at 7000 employees, it plans to increase its workforce by more than 25%, presently listing a whopping 1,800 job openings. And they are eager to get going, hoping to close escrow on the Mountain View buildings by the end of this month. “We’re pleased to expand our Mountain View campus to accommodate our growing employee population,” said Google spokesperson Barry Schnitt.

Add the complex at The Dalles to the rumors of online storage and backup AND the rollout yesterday of a test version of an online image album ( http://www.backwash.com/content.php?jouid=10239 ) which is also Google’s first venture into paid services, and what do you get?
