If you own any McAfee or Norton Security product for your Windows machine, you can now either upgrade or switch to McAfee Internet Security Suite 2005 (7.0) for free!

“How’s that work, Aunty?” you may ask.

Well, it works like this! Right now you can get McAfee Security 2005 on sale from Amazon for $64.99, however Amazon also links to a general $25.00 rebate on McAfee Security 2005, as well as a $40.00 rebate for anyone who is upgrading or switching from Norton Security. (Don’t worry, there’s a link to this all below!)

$64.99 minus $40.00 minus $25.00 is..well, less than zero! And even the shipping is free!

Here’s McAfee’s description of their product:

Enjoy everything the Internet has to offer - without the worry of online threats. McAfee Internet Security Suite provides powerful, comprehensive protection for Internet users. Built on McAfee’s award-winning technologies, the suite provides one of the most comprehensive, integrated security and privacy toolsets available. It safeguards personal data, prevents viruses, and detects potentially unwanted programs (PUPs) such as spyware and adware. It also prohibits unauthorized access, prevents hackers and spammers, blocks pop-up ads, manages cookies, and filters objectionable content. At last, you are in full control of what goes into and out of your PC via the Internet.

Umm…”PUPs”?? Ok, so they didn’t consult Aunty when they created their acronyms.

But still, now there is no excuse for not being up-to-date on your virus and Internet security program!

  1. Note that McAfee consumer products still use the shiteware SpamKiller engine for spam, not the good stuff.

  2. Please read the fine print before buying anything. It used to be that you could ‘upgrade’ back and forth between McAfee and Norton. Now a “full” ie. non-rebate version is required to upgrade. I had a rebate refused last year.
