Looking at the TIVO Terms & Conditions for rebate there is a requirement for particular Service Numbers. How do you know whether you get the right product if you order on the internet?

Well, sure enough. So many of you guys must have taken advantage of it that they raised the price! Still not a bad deal though. $198.99 - $150.00 = $48.99 for a 40 hour Tivo.

I think you omitted the $299 "activation fee" so the real price is something like $400 before rebate, not $99.

The original Tivo could be used as a DVR without activation, but I heard they changed the firmware so any newer Tivo is useless without activation.

I just looked at the web page and I see they raised the price about $100, so now the real price is around $500 before rebate, not $99.
