There has been a big stir created by the announcement that Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has signed on with Google to create exclusive video cartoon content for their Adsense ad network. But we think that the big stir is no more than a tempest in a teapot.

People across the Internet and tv-land have raised a hue and cry over the deal, accusing MacFarlane of “selling out”, and Google of violating their “do no evil” creedo.

However, Google has been taking video from their YouTube property, as well as other directly submitted video, tacking advertising on to the videos and pushing them through Adsense for months.

The deal with Seth MacFarlane is no different – create videos, have ads tacked on to them, push them through Adsense.

In fact, even the fact that MacFarlane is doing it exclusively for the express purpose of Google using the videos in the Adsense network is no different than what thousands of other advertisers are doing with Google right now.

So why the big stir? Apparently Family Guy purists want their MacFarlane material unsullied by ads. Pretty ironic when you consider that they are watching the Family Guy on the Fox network.
