A rash of fake Verizon Wireless account notifications hit the Internet this week, showing outrageous charges that are, supposely, hitting your bill. They have the subject line of either “Thank You for your Verizon Wireless Payment” or “Your Bill Is Now Available”. Of course, the links take you to all sorts of spam and scam sites, so don’t be taken in. Here are some examples of the fake notices, with links to places such as integrallisambiental[dot]com.br/k5CGsJe6/index.html, pliki.unigroup[dot]pl/MFQanBuj/index.html and http://www.mayphe.com.br/DyXEBK63/index.html.
Of course, the point of the fake notice with the high dollar amount is to make you freak out and think that your bank account or credit card has just been charged hundreds or thousands of dollars, so that you will follow the (fake) links. As always, the best thing – the only thing – that you should do is go directly to your Verizon Wireless account with your web browser, not click a link in the email (which, if you over your mouse over the link, will often display the actual nasty link).
