(PRWEB) June 28, 2005 — .EU Domain applications can now be officially submitted, thanks to the approval and accreditation of .EU Registrars by EURid, the responsible Registry. EuroDNS, the leading Luxembourg-based European Domain Name Registrar, is one of the first organizations to be an Official Accredited .EU Registrar, and is accepting applications for .eu Domain Names.

Even though actual registrations will not be submitted to EURid until the last quarter of 2005 (November) for Sunrise, and in early 2006 for open registrations, applications start now. Bearing in mind that the “First Come First Served” rule always applies, your application and payment will establish the sequence in which your application will be submitted.

An Applicant for a .eu Domain, whether during the Sunrise period or later, must meet the geographical requirements applicable to all .eu domain name holders. .eu Domain applicants must be companies and organizations that have their registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the European Community. Individuals - natural persons – resident within the European Community, are also eligible to apply for .eu Domain Names.

Applicants not able to show this direct link to Europe will not be considered. They will have to find a suitbale European contact point for their Domain application.

The Sunrise period allows those with specific rights to a given Domain Name to obtain a name that exactly matches this Right before the Registry opens up for all applications.

The Sunrise period consists of two phases each lasting two months. An extra charge will be made for evaluating a Sunrise period application. The level of this fee will depend on the category of applicant.

Sunrise phase 1 – Public Bodies.
During phase 1, applications can only be made for domain names that correspond with the full name of a public body; the acronym by which a public body is commonly know, or, if applicable, the territory which is governed by a public body.

A “Public Body” is the name of that body, for example, the City of Luxembourg, or the acronym under which it is known, for example “SNCF” (the French Railways).

Applicants are only accepted from the public bodies concerned.

During phase 1, applications can also be made for domain names that EXACTLY correspond with Registered EU Member State’s national trademarks and registered EU Community trademarks. Such Domains may be applied for by the holder/licensee of the trademark

A “Registered Trademark” is a National Trademark listed in any European Union country Trademark Register, or a European Community Trademark listed in their Register. In both cases the Trademark must have completed the official waiting period for any Oppositions to be filed

During Sunrise phase 2, applications can also be made for domain names that EXACTLY correspond with ‘Other Prior Rights’ that are protected under the national law of the member state where they are held

‘Other Prior Rights’ include company names, business identifiers and trade names (all related to organisations with a registered address in the EU). Domain names that exactly match distinctive titles of protected literary and artistic work, as well as unregistered trademarks (still to be defined), may also be applied for during Sunrise phase 2
