Yep, it’s true. You can get almost anything on eBay, including the birthplace of that iconic American, Walt Disney. To own this piece of Americana, you just have to be willing to move to Chicago (or to be a long distance landlord, if you want to rent it out).

Built by Walt’s father, Elias Disney, in 1893, the house is more than 110 years old. Elias Disney was a carpenter with the World’s Fair, and apparently knew how to knock together a solid house.

“There is still a good deal of Elias Disney in that house. One can still see the general shape and the footprint,” explains Disney biographer Neil Gabler.

Born in December of 1901, Walt lived in the Tripp Avenue home in the Hermosa Park area of Chicago until he was 4 years old, at which point the family moved because they felt that the neighborhood was no longer safe.

Although efforts to have the Disney home declared an historical landmark were thwarted by the previous owner, the current owners, Radoje and Barbara Popovic, are hoping to attract a buyer who will appreciate the home for its historical roots.

So why eBay? To broaden the home’s exposure, explains Barbara, “we feel there is someone out there that might be able to take the building to the next step and do something with the historical significance.”

Those with an appreciation of the historical aspect of Walt Disney’s birthplace, a desire to own real estate in Chicago, or just with a curiosity to see the listing, can view the eBay listing of Walt Disney’s birth place.
