They aren't separate from the world just because they are accessed only via the computer. It bugs me that people think they can lie in cyberspace and that it doesn't matter because it's all "pretend". No, it's not pretend. It's communication. That said, whether or not the arrest was a good one, the policeman in question has shown poor judgement and this trial may have been a necessary wake-up call for him.
