Comedy Central is unveiling a new Internet television network, the Motherload network (yes, I know it should be “Motherlode Network”, and that in fact it’s “mother lode” or “mother-lode”, not “motherload”, but hey, they didn’t consult me before they named it). The Motherload Network will be online starting next Tuesday, November 1st.

Initially the Internet-based broadband Motherload Network will offer five different channels, featuring 450 video clips and six series. The channels are TV Shows, Comedians, Originals, The Daily Show, and Cult Classics. Comedy Central says that the Motherload Network will be updated five days a week, and that they will be adding 50 to 80 shows a week to the network.

Said Comedy Central’s president, Doug Herzog, “We’ve taken everything that is great about Comedy Centraland shifted it into broadband.”

“We’ve seen comedy thrive in other formats than half-hour TV,” explained Lou Wallach, Senior VP of Original Programming and Development. “This content will be pitched, developed and produced for Motherload. It’s a place for non-traditional voices, and an incubator for new ideas.”

Wallach added that “Comedy today does not just live as a 22-minute television show. We’ve developed and produced programming exclusively for this digital platform and are looking forward to premiering original content on “MotherLoad’.”

Although the page is not yet up, it is anticipated that information for the Motherload Network will live at http://www.comedycentral.com/motherload

Now, if only they would add an MST3K channel.
