One of the coolest gadgets that we got this year was from an organization that we sponsored, Colorado Public Radio. It’s called a “Radio Bookmark”, and the particular one that we got was the “NPR Radio Bookmark.” What is a Radio Bookmark? Where can you get one? Read on! The Radio Bookmark, which looks like a USB thumb drive, and you carry on your keychain, works like this: you are driving down the road, listening to something on NPR, and you think “Hey, I want to tell Joe about this!”, or you get to your destination and the interview or show you are listening to isn’t over, and you want to know how the story ends. It used to be that you were just out of luck, but not with the Radio Bookmark! Just press the button on the Radio Bookmark, and the next time you are at your computer, plug it into a USB port, and the Radio Bookmark will find the podcast or recording of that show and download it to your computer so that you can listen to the whole show. Pretty nifty, eh? Each Radio Bookmark is station-specific, and there are Radio Bookmarks available for many different radio stations across the United States. Now for the ‘bad’ news: Radio Book Marks are only available as “thank you” gifts for pledging to public radio. So the only way you can get one is by making a donation to the public radio station offering the Radio Bookmark. But hey, if you are listening to public radio enough to want a Radio Bookmark, then you should be supporting them anyways, right? You can learn more about the Radio Bookmark here. And you can look up which stations have a Radio Bookmark available here. Want more info on the Radio Bookmark? Our good buddy, Dave Taylor of Ask Dave Taylor has written about the Radio Bookmark on his answers to tech questions site.

NOTE: We never, ever, ever will recommend any product or service on this site that we have not regularly used ourselves and do not wholeheartedly believe in. That said, in some cases after being very pleased with a product or service, we may enter into a relationship with the provider of that product or service such that if someone purchases that product or service based on our recommendation, we may get a small payment. Such payments go towards the upkeep of the Internet Patrol.

I don’t think that you have to donate to get one anymore. I think that they’re available for sale online now.
