In a new twist, web spammers are using images of a stripper named Melissa to dupe naive Windows users into helping them break CAPTCHAs - those "enter this text" images that websites rely on to keep spammers from posting spam on their site. Dubbed the CAPTCHA.a or Captchar.a virus, an infected Windows computer will display a picture of Melissa, who promises to remove an article of clothing for each "puzzle" that the user solves. Anthony Rich of Bradenton, Florida was himself no older than 17 when he met and dated his then girlfriend, who was 15. With only a two year difference, and with both teens being under 18, you might think that there was no problem. But then they broke up - and Anthony Rich - at age 17 - posted a nude picture of his 15 year old ex-girlfriend to her MySpace page. And now, two years later (and thus over the age of 18), Anthony Rich is facing 30 days in jail for child abuse and attempted child abuse. Newsfilter is many things to many people. One person searching for information on "newsfilter" may be looking for information on Internet sites that allow users to help filter news up to the top, like Digg. Another person searching for "newsfilter" information may be looking for information on the project which is an effort to filter information posted to Usenet news based on user input, while still another may be annoyed at what mssv.net calls the "tendency of posts on MetaFilter to be far too 'newsy'," which is referred to as - yep - you guessed it - newsfilter. These people probably do not have a lot in common - except for one thing. Each of them, when clicking on the first link they will find when searching for "newsfilter" on Google, will find not what they are looking for - but a porn site, run by Internet businessman and former heavy metal guitarist Erik Barath. Self-professed pedophile Jack McClellan ran his Seattle Tacoma Everett Girl Love website at stegl.org openly and, by all accounts from legal authorities, legally. You see, Jack McClellan has no criminal record, and as best as anyone can tell (and of course he claims) McClellan has never actually molested or illegally touched a minor. He just loves them. But his website - which we recreate here - was knocked offline by an outraged public. A Connecticut jury convicted substitute teacher Julie Amero of felony "risking injury to a minor or impairing the morals of a minor" when a classroom computer in the Connecticut school classroom in which she was substitute teaching began displaying graphic pornographic pop-ups. The Geek Squad at Best Buy Electronics stores is supposed to help customers with their computers. But some geeks on the geek squad have instead been helping themselves to porn files found on their customers' hard drives, with one Geek Squad member copying the files to his own thumb drive (issued by employer Best Buy .com). MySpace, which recently capitulated to legal demands and has started openly identifying and maintaining a database of sex offenders who have created profiles on the MySpace site, has accidentally branded an innocent woman, Jessica Davis, as a sex offender. A New York man who was fired from IBM for visiting sex-related sites on the Internet while at work has sued IBM, claiming that he has a sex addiction, and that his addiction entitles him to protection under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). James Pacenza, of Montgomery, New York, in a $5 million lawsuit against IBM, alleges that IBM improperly fired him, claiming that the firing was improper because his actions were the result of a sex addiction triggered, he says, by post-traumatic stress syndrome. 58-year old James Pacenza is a Vietnam war veteran, who says that seeing his fellow soldiers killed in action lead to a stress which in turn lead to his sex addiction.
