I hope that all of you Windows users listened to Aunty, and didn’t download that Lycos “Make Love Not Spam” screensaver.
Netcraft has announced that Lycos Europe has pulled their screensaver project, “Make Love Not Spam”, and now when you go to the site it simply displays a cute little graphic which says “Stay Tuned”.
Not uncoincidentally, Netcraft is reporting that several Internet backbone providers had blocked the Lycos screensaver site (it’s never pretty when Internet industry giants turn on their own kind).
Also, interestingly, Lycos has moved the site from one IP address to another, and both IP addresses belong to..their PR firm? What’s up with that, Aunty asks? Surely this wasn’t just a big PR stunt?
But most serious, Netcraft is reporting that, contrary to its promises, the program had in fact taken down some of the sites it had targetted, rather than just ’slowing them down’. Naughty, naughty (illegal, illegal).
Uh..you did listen to Aunty, right?
You can read more about this at Netcraft, and you can still get legitimate and very cool “Make Love Not Spam” items from ISIPP’s “Slam a Spammer” shop.
