The British government is considering making registered sex offenders register their email addresses and chat names - including names that they use in chatrooms - along with their other details.

According to British Home Secretary John Reid, the government is considering making offenders list their email address and chat name when adding their information to the sex offenders registry, as a way of helping to further ensure the safety of children on the Internet.

And sex offenders, being the honest lot that they are, won’t just go open another new email account, or create a new chat name, abandoning the one that they register. Which may then get recycled and reassigned to a completely innocent person.

Good idea. Let’s have them register what sort of clothing they wear, while we’re at it.
