Blockbuster Video has announced that users will be able to watch thousands of movies from the Blockbuster catalog on their cell phones in the near future. Part of Blockbuster’s OnDemand service, Blockbuster says that compatible mobile phones will have “on-the-go download access to Blockbuster’s digital library of thousands of current BLOCKBUSTER OnDemand movies.”

While initially the service will only be offered on “select Motorola phones”, there is rumour that the application may be available for Android phones as well.

Says Blockbuster, “Motorola is a recognized global communications leader and extending the BLOCKBUSTER brand and our OnDemand service into their portfolio of innovative new phones is a natural extension of our digital strategy. People are increasingly relying on their mobile phones to stay connected to the things they love the most - including their favorite movies and TV shows. The integration of our BLOCKBUSTER OnDemand service into Motorola’s mobile phones will provide access to thousands of movies from the moment someone initiates their service.”

The big question is, will people really pay to watch big screen media on oh-so-tiny small screen phones?
