Summary: ATandT has responded to the Fake Steve Jobs' Operation Chokehold which exhorts AT and T users to protest ATandT's lousy data network service by clogging the service with solid data usage for an hour this Friday (tomorrow) from noon to 1:00 p.m. PST. ATandT's response reveals that decent 3G network coverage isn't the only thing lacking from ATandT's lineup - they also have no sense of humor.

ATandT has responded to the Fake Steve Jobs’ Operation Chokehold which exhorts AT and T users to protest ATandT’s lousy data network service by clogging the service with solid data usage for an hour this Friday (tomorrow) from noon to 1:00 p.m. PST. ATandT’s response reveals that decent 3G network coverage isn’t the only thing lacking from ATandT’s lineup - they also have no sense of humor.

Said an AT&T spokesperson, “We understand that fakesteve.net is primarily a satirical forum, but there is nothing amusing about advocating that customers attempt to deliberately degrade service on a network that provides critical communications services for more than 80 million customers… We know that the vast majority of customers will see this action for what it is: an irresponsible and pointless scheme to draw attention to a blog.”

Now, while we don’t necessarily advocate bringing a nationwide cell service to its knees to make a point, it’s clear that AT&T misses that point entirely: this is not about drawing attention to a blog. It’s about drawing attention to AT&T’s p*ss poor service.

[Ed. note: Read here about AT&T begging their customers to stop using so much bandwidth because they can't handle it.]

Now, if AT&T had a sense of humor - and a decent 3G network - they would turn Operation Chokehold on its head - inviting the Chokeholdians to “bring it on” - and then when all that data usage on Friday didn’t bring the AT&T network to its knees, the joke would be on them.

But unable to do that, instead they trot out a whiny spokesperson. (There’s a sap for that.)

There should be a slap for that.

  1. AT&T is the primary reason I use a BB. That and an iPhone simply costs too much. There was a time, many years ago that AT&T was a fine company, customer centric. Then the gov’mnt stepped in and broke them into little pieces. Since then, they have been the meanest, contrary, customer-be-damned company in the world.
Full disclosure-I used to work for them.
